Philanthropic Projects
Support Military Veterans
We have two annual campaigns that support military veterans and respond to community crisis. In the winter, our members donate personal items for men and women that are given to patients as they are discharged from the Jerry Pettis Memorial Hospital in Loma Linda, helping needy families in the process. In the spring, we participate in Operation Baby Shower at the Juliet Center in Redlands, where members donate baby supplies to help domestic violence victims, and the club purchases larger items such as high chairs and strollers. In total, we support approximately 250 veterans while also investing in community youth through our initiatives and hosting community events.
Help Needy Families
When illness or tragedy strikes a household, it affects everyone in the family. Our Advocates for Children's Chair coordinates with local schools to pinpoint families in need, helping to respond to community crises. This support may include providing groceries, school clothes, toys, or whatever special items that family needs. We also host community events aimed at investing in community youth and help needy families in our area, as well as creating initiatives to help domestic violence victims and support military veterans.
Host Community Events
For the past 30 years, on the first Sunday of December, the Walnut Valley Women's Club has hosted a tree lighting ceremony at Walnut's Fire Station #61 to support our community. This event not only helps needy families and invests in community youth but also invites a community leader to light the impressive Christmas tree. Local children's choirs entertain attendees, making the occasion memorable. The highlight of the event is a special visit from Santa and his elf helper, bringing joy and warmth to our effort to help domestic violence victims, respond to community crisis, and support military veterans.
Help Domestic Violence Victims
Victims of domestic violence often have to flee at a moment's notice with only the clothes on their backs. The WINGS (YWCA) program aims to help domestic violence victims by providing a safe place for the abused partner and children to stay, as well as offering free counseling. In addition to these crucial services, we also strive to help needy families by addressing their basic needs. The WINGS shelter is continuously in need of clothing (especially pajamas), pillows, and personal items. By hosting community events and encouraging our supporters to invest in community youth, we can further respond to community crises and provide ongoing assistance. We have adopted this as an ongoing year-round project to support not only domestic violence victims but also military veterans in our community.
Invest in Community Youth
Future scientists and engineers are participating in one of Suzanne's Middle School's Robotics Clubs, where they build expensive robots that provide them with valuable hands-on experience. The Walnut Teen Center not only offers a safe environment for teens to socialize and receive tutoring but also hosts community events that respond to community crises and support military veterans. Additionally, the Walnut Valley Women's Club plays a crucial role by helping needy families and investing in community youth through assistance to these valuable educational resources.
Respond to Community Crisis
The Walnut Valley Women’s Club is proud to stand in solidarity with those affected by disasters and will continue to respond to community crisis by supporting relief and recovery efforts whenever and wherever the need arises. Recently, the Club donated $1500 to help needy families, specifically supporting students impacted by the Eaton Fire in Altadena. Additionally, we are committed to host community events that not only help domestic violence victims but also invest in community youth and support military veterans.
